One of the strongest features of every French talent card is what it does for your family. Your spouse and children do not go through the slow family reunification procedure: they receive their own talent (famille) card, and your spouse can work in France from day one, as an employee or self-employed.

Who the card covers
- Your spouse, if married and aged 18 or over.
- The couple's children who entered France as minors. Under 18 they do not need a residence card in France; they receive this card once they come of age, or earlier if they want to work.
The family card exists alongside every talent card: qualified employee, EU Blue Card, medical and pharmacy professions, researcher, company founder, innovative project, investor, group executive, artist and international renown.
Who it does not cover. The text speaks of the spouse. An unmarried partner, including a PACS partner, needs another route. Parents and adult children who did not enter as minors are not covered either.
Conditions and validity
- A family link with a talent card holder: marriage for the spouse, filiation for the couple's children.
- Age: 18 or over for the spouse; for children, the card comes when they reach adulthood, or earlier to work.
- Validity: the card runs for the remaining validity of the main holder's card.
There is no salary, resources, degree or language condition for the family member.
After five years. Once the family member has lived in France for at least five years, the card is renewed automatically for four years.
Separated, remarried, or children close to 18? A short consultation is enough to check how the rules apply to your family.
Documents and procedure
The file rests on the main holder's card and on civil-status documents proving the marriage and the children's parentage. Foreign certificates often need a sworn translation, and some need legalisation or an apostille.
From abroad, each family member applies for a long-stay "talent (famille)" visa, ideally at the same time as the main holder. Already in France, the application goes to the préfecture. Families of EU Blue Card holders who already live together in another EU state follow a faster route without a French visa. A first card costs €350 in tax stamps.
Your rights
- Work. Any professional activity, salaried or self-employed. Employers need no work authorisation.
- No integration contract. No A2 test or civic exam for this card.
- A stable card. Unlike most permits, this card is not withdrawn simply because a condition stops being met, with rare exceptions.
When it gets complicated
The family card is simple for a classic married couple with young children. These situations need more care:
- Unmarried or PACS partners. The text covers spouses only. Partners need another basis, and the choice affects timing and rights.
- Children from a previous relationship. The text speaks of the couple's children. Custody, consent of the other parent and recognition of foreign judgments come into play.
- Children turning 18. The window to switch to their own card is short and easy to miss.
- Separation or divorce. What happens to the spouse's card, and to the path to 10 years, depends on timing and on the main holder's situation.
- Joining later. A family that arrives months or years after the main holder follows a different sequence than one that moves together.
- Civil-status documents. Marriage and birth certificates from some countries need legalisation, apostille or reconstruction before they are accepted.
Frequently asked questions
Can my spouse work in France on a talent family card?
Yes. The card allows any professional activity, salaried or self-employed, without a work authorisation.
Do we need to go through family reunification?
No. Families of talent card holders use a simplified procedure and receive their own card.
Is my PACS partner covered?
No. The talent family card is for a married spouse. A PACS or unmarried partner needs another route.

Two ways to move forward
Check your situation. If your family situation is not a classic married couple with young children, book a consultation to see how the rules apply.
Have the application handled. If you want the whole family's files prepared together with the main card, describe your situation and you will receive a proposal for full assistance.
